Project Owner:

Miami Museum of Science

Description

Paladino and Company worked with the Miami Science Museum to create a strategic framework for the development of a new museum building which will focus on sustainability as a centerpiece of the building design, exhibits and programs. Sustainability touches every aspect of strategic planning, development and implementation from capital planning through stakeholder engagement. It also drives business partnerships that can assist the Museum in fulfilling its educational mission.

Strategy

The overall objective of the engagement was to establish a sustainability strategy, plan and performance indicators to be used to guide design and performance validation of the Museum’s building and exhibits. The established framework featured a customized performance rating system (sustainability platform) that was used to evaluate and select design teams and establish a communications platform for interaction with the community and other critical stakeholders during the design process. Paladino also established a building design concept based on earth systems, which will inform the design developed by the selected architectural team.

Results

The result is a comprehensive sustainability framework accompanied by a green building design strategy that will guide not only the selected designer in implementing building features in support of the Museum’s platform, but will also guide exhibit designers and operations and development directors in implementing sustainability concepts selected by MiaSci.
